Our Vision
To develop
sustainable management policies and procedures that will ensure all the
stakeholders within the Port Kembla Harbour catchment derive the benefits
they seek from activities within the Harbour.
Our
Mission
The mission of
the Port Kembla Harbour Environment Group is to protect and enhance the
quality of Port Kembla's water, harbour sediment and marine life by
coordinating the sustainable use and management of land, water, vegetation
and other natural resources within the catchment of the Harbour.
Our
Objectives
- Contribute
to the awareness and understanding of the Port Kembla Harbour
environment and the associated issues within the catchment by
providing information and education.
- Facilitate the completion of appropriate research,
consultancy and monitoring activities with analysis and dissemination
of the results of these activities.
- Ensure
that the community, industries and government agencies operating
within the Port Kembla Harbour give due recognition to the sustainable
use and management of the catchment in their current and planned
activities.
- Take
an active role in establishing, as soon as possible water and sediment
quality standards for Port Kembla Harbour that are acceptable to the
community and users of the Harbour.
- Provide
a forum for multi-agency discussion of issues relating to the
sustainable use and management of the catchment.
- Encourage
planning processes that help define and meet the goals of all
stakeholders and contribute to the planning activities of industry,
government and other organisations operating within the catchment.
- Ensure that an overall database of environmental
parameters relating to the harbour and its catchment are maintained.
- Seek out and attract funds that are required to
investigate problems arising within the catchment.
